Home Retrofit, Drogheda

A Drogheda home, taken from a C1 to an A1 BER.

Completed May 2026

The story

A heating upgrade that became a whole home retrofit

Adrian and Olivia wanted to replace an ageing heating system without turning their lives upside down. They had known the Lennon family locally for years, and first met the team at the Ideal Home Show in the RDS while weighing up solar panels, heat pumps and the SEAI grants on offer.

Once a price was agreed, Retrofit Director Chris Bermingham managed the whole job, lining up every trade and the order of works. The few snags were sorted on the spot, and the work finished ahead of schedule, taking the home from a C1 to an A1 BER.

Solar PV and battery storage

SpecificationNine high-efficiency all-black solar PV panels paired with 5kW of dedicated battery storage.

The benefitThe panels generate the home's own electricity through the day. The battery stores the excess so it can run appliances in the evening, for free.

Triple-glazed windows and doors

SpecificationHigh-performance triple-glazed units with a thermal U-value of 1.1 W/m²K, replacing every window and external door.

The benefitThey wrap the house in a thermal layer that gets rid of cold spots and draughts, with far better sound insulation too.

Air-to-water heat pump

SpecificationA Mitsubishi air-to-water heat pump in place of the old fossil-fuel boiler, for heating and hot water.

The benefitInstead of burning fuel for short bursts of heat, it draws warmth from the outside air and holds a steady, comfortable temperature around the clock.

Adrian and Olivia's review

★★★★★

"We first knew of Lennons as a well-respected family from the same part of Drogheda as ourselves. When we decided it was time to upgrade our heating system, their name popped up. Friends of ours, a young couple, were getting work done by them and highly recommended them to us. It's what you want to hear when you are thinking of getting something like this done, as it's a big outlay and you want it to be done properly with minimal disruption.

While doing our homework, we attended the 'Ideal Home Show' in the RDS to learn more about solar panels, heat pumps, and the grants that were available for all this work. Lennons had a stall there, and that was our first point of contact. We arranged an appointment and the wheels were set in motion.

A price was agreed and we were introduced to Chris Bermingham, Project Manager, who organised all the different contractors and the order of work. That is a very difficult task if you were to try to do it yourself.

A start and finish date was set, and when work started, we were contacted beforehand by all the different tradesmen involved to make sure the times suited us. As a retired tradesman myself, I was very impressed by the standard of work and attention to detail they all showed, their politeness, and upon completion of each part of the job, the clean-up.

As with any job, there will always be snags; these were very minor and swiftly dealt with by Chris. Everything was checked and double-checked, and only passed when we were satisfied with everything. The whole project completed well ahead of the estimated finishing date.

We have no hesitation in recommending Chris and all the crew to anybody who may be considering getting this work done."
